When you’re on the German Autobahn in a Porsche 918 Spyder, there aren’t many cars that can show you their rear ends. Nevertheless, if you happen to see a Koenigsegg badge, you might be in trouble and this is exactly what happened to the 918 driver in the footage below.
The hybrid hypercar meets one of the spiciest models in the Swedish carmaker’s range, namely the Agera R. Sure, the Porsche might have HP, but we’ll remind you the Agera R holds multiple acceleration and braking world records.
While the 2kg/hp Porsche may appear to have no chance in front of the 1.4 kg/hp Koenigsegg, statistics prove such an assumption wrong. In the real world, the 918 Spyder wins sprint tests up to around 125 MPH (200 KM/H), while the Agera R takes the lead from that point on.
As the pair of hypercars heads towards Hamburg, both weld the throttle to the floor, with the chase becoming as intense as 218 MPH (350 KM/H).
The Porsche driver is quite determined to put up a nice fight, but the clip also gives us the occasion to dive deeper into the details of owning such a ridiculously high-tech machine.
For instance, the rather agitated filming, which comes from GT Board, does reveal the 14.8 l/100 km (15.9 mpg) fuel efficiency. While a far stretch from the 3.1 l/100 km (75.9 mpg) plug-in-hybrid-magic figure advertised by Porsche, the value remains reasonable for an 887 hp Porsche.
We also get to find out a few other hot details. For instance, the guy admits the original set of tires is almost ready to be replaced, after just under 7,500 miles (12,000 km). Thanks to the petrol-electric setup, the 918 Spyder is the only all-wheel drive proposal in the infamous hybrid hypercar trio, so all four tires have been seriously abused.
Usually when we get to enjoy such racing clips, these either take place on the track or take us into the illegal street racing world. However, since this takes place on the Autobahn, everything is legal. Even the massive flame spat by the Koenigsegg.
